The Office

*Another oldie from the drafts folder, written at a time when I first became aware that the corporate ladder, in my case anyway, really wasn't worth climbing...

Crossing the line into the sublime
world of insanity, my vanity will
not allow me to turn back

Black and white converge as the
urge to run away plays momentarily
in the pit of my soul before droll
sycophants drag me back to my
decrepit cell

This cubicle Hell

The prison that strips away
my soul leaving only the decay
of imagination and creativity
The chains of my captivity
are stock options and a 401K

Perhaps I should call in 'dead'

Ah, but you write too well! Superb! And when you are published, can my copy be signed personally? If you call in dead will you go off to a dessert island and publish your clever lines? The imagery and flow, rhyming is absolutely wonderful. Sonnet class is awaiting, you know?

Ah, the corporate treadmill. A succinct, pointed and well penned poem. Great work as usual, Patrick.

You nail it, Patrick, 'cuz i'm livin' it & not havin' such a grand time!My fav day's in the shade of Marketing....were when I first started out in the field....away from everyone....my own schedule....and no claustrophobic offices, with back-stabbing knives carving their way through from the outer walls in,on a mission(it would seem)to penetrate completely through & say hello to my spine or jugular vein! Good stuff here, my friend,as always! ~FjR~

Brilliant self-awareness, I must say. You just found out that someone just tampered with your priority list, and that someone is you yourself. I can relate to the feelings behind this poem.

True, Patrick....It's like politics too where people in the party can only say yes, even when they see something wrong...good decision, good poem...

I know so many men who I can see are trapped and slowly dying for fear of saying so far and no further. A poem worth reading and remembering Patrick. kath xxx

My husband and I both quit jobs in retail after eighteen years of their so called Associate concern and respect for the individual. All CRAP!!! We have found that we have more $$$ now than ever! God provides, we are prize examples of that! God bless, Linda
