Gathering Wood

leaves of last winter
crumble beneath our measured steps,
and networks of branches
crackle like flames
in the glowing hearth of trust
softly, simply speaking
to converge our miles yet spent
if only for a moment, to
ease the endless travels
and bring us home again

Nicely written ... moving forward, unimpeded by the past. The pace of your highly readable poem is very much like that of a pleasant unhurried walk in the wood.

Oh! Bravo! The good works of the past provide fuel for the future, and much, much more. A classic.

You not only weave a lot of meaning with the images and words but also evoke sentiments of feelings. I like your comparison of networks of branches crackling in flames and glowing hearth of trust. I keep on going back and rereading because what you write later adds new meanings to what you wrote before. I almost forgot the title. That truly sets the scene.

thoughtful and rather lovely, pensive piece...
