PRETTY WORDS

PRETTY WORDS

From the oceans to the mountains
Heartbreak echoes in the valley
Laughter can sound like breaking glass
And it's cutting wounds within me

And I wish I had a message
But I am at a loss of words
Kindness goes around like cliches
As the mean streaks want to be heard

You want me to speak pretty words
As pretty as the morning birds
But instead I have a joke for you
The big joke is like trickery
The big joke happens to be me
And the laughter I evoke is crude

I'm scared 'cause I understand
Why people turn to substances
They're like getaway cars in pills
They're like an internal caress

Tried talking to the universe
It showed me I must be punished
And so much is caged in the past
And nothing can be replenished

You want me to speak pretty words
As pretty as the morning birds
But instead I have a joke for you
The big joke is like trickery
The big joke happens to be me
And the laughter I evoke is crude

Religion and the law can judge
For me they'll have a grudge
I don't have to do anything
The church will always be laughing

You want me to speak pretty words
As pretty as the morning birds
But instead I have a joke for you
The big joke is like trickery
The big joke happens to be me
And the laughter I evoke is crude
