A Dandelion Wish

So delicate, floating on springtime breeze
a dandelion down alights on my sleeve,
hesitates briefly, like a dragonfly,
til I send it once more to the sun drenched sky,
round and round and up and down it plays
transporting a wish someone has made.

For somewhere in a meadow tall and grassy
lies a young and lovely dreaming lassie,
entertaining herself by watching the sky
with curious white clouds that wander by.
As she hums to herself a dreamy song
wondering to whom her heart belongs,
she fancies what young man might know
how her pure heart is yearning so
to taste the nectar of love's first kiss
or marvel in mutual bliss
of tender new love, delightfully naive,
but holding the promise of things in which to believe.

She picks a dandelion with a wish to her breast
then blows with a quick and serious breath,
into the ethereal world of her faith
secure in her belief of the little fluff's fate.
She lies there and sees it wistfully rise,
and follows it with her trusting eyes.

So when on my sleeve it once more alights,
and doubtful seems it finished flight,
I lift it hopefully into the wind
so the journey of a wish might begin again.
