This one is dedicated to my dad who has been on the other side for the last 8 years never to return ever again...

“Answered By Silence” (A Sonnet for my father)

Northern star had changed its position
When the moonlight was on that vacant bed
Somewhere there was a stilly submission
An aching void infinitely spread

His arms upon the arms of his black chair
His finger tips on that sash of window
Then all faded into the lifeless air
Air left to breathe for his woeful widow

Stranded silence strangled the cold blue night
There it was like an unuttered fable
But no miracle came to pass the light
Through that half glass of water on table

Memory replaced his sacred presence
And all the tears were answered by silence

the theme, form, images, tone, rhythm, rhyme are so evocative and full of poignancy. sense of emptiness, silence, compassion for your mother, resignation- strike a chord. You are not absorbed in your own grief and loss. an amazing tribute, you couldn't picked a better form to pay a tribute to your father. a deep cry in the heart which no one can hear is Answered by silence

True enough, in the absence of the loved ones, only in memory we can find solace.

This is a beautiful tribute to your Father, 'all the tears were answered by silence' My own mother died ten years ago and I picked up this lovely verse in an Abbey, it still helps today. It is not all of it just the beginning and the end. I will send you the complete one if you would like it. Henry Scott Holland the canon of St Pauls Cathedral wrote "Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are.....Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well"

Your bittersweet poem draws me in the soul of your poetry, and I not only appreciate the deep emotion it evokes, but the crafting that has gone into its begetting. Superb penning dear Munia and so wonderful to read your poetry again~~~

I agree with Paul. When we are forced, by poetic convention, to keep a tight rein on one's poetic choices, the creative soul can truly stretch its wings. A heart-felt and poignant expression of love and acceptance. Your final couplet is especially fine. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I sometimes think it strange that the strict rules of a form such as this can express such deep emotions, but the requirements of a fixed rhyme scheme can often control the feelings and give them a shape. Very well done.
