Form 5 tercets/ 15 lines
Metaphor: the heaviness and loss
in daily life can be overcome with effort

Lifting Weights

Lifting Weights

Drag, pull, push, uplift —heave high,
the clang of weights rings—
ding-cling, when the barbell moves.

A song of labor, a song of love
a song of endurance, a song of stress
The pain in growing, the pain in change.

Loss turns to absolute gains—
a stronger body, a stronger mind,
the controlled breath, a stronger heart

There is no race. Everyone’s a winner;
each planet orbits their sun.
a distance reached for and found.

The last set comes with the jitters
that builds a mind-set in action
until an inner universe glows.
