Ambitions of Relative Harmlessness

My only ambition in life
is to enjoy it while it's here.
I pick apples once a year

and never eat them:
I just like the ambiance they lend
to the room.

Lying beneath an apple tree
I think: this root is very uncomfortable.
But the view is pretty nonetheless.

Bark is charming in an eccentric sort of way,
and leaves are endlessly fascinating-
the way they frame the sky

for crimes they committed themselves.

could do a lot worse than enjoy lying beneath an apple tree :)
