Fettered Words

From that first time, when our eyes met,
we felt our lives entwine.
I knew you were a part of me forever,
and all of time

But never would I say I loved you
A kiss would always do
You confessed your love for me;
there was no "I love you, too"

I didn't speak I love you
in those words you yearned to hear
But I gave you all my fettered self
could give whenever I was near

I wasn't free to say I loved you
This you always knew
So I never said I love you ...
but I do

Love is a very strong word, yet this poem rings true. Great work and great read. =)

Love is like a piece of burning charcoal put in one's underwear. It can't be hidden for long.It would be known by either actions or words.

Wow! This one tells quite a story. And it tells it magnificently! I am most impressed - and reminded of a man I lived with for 27 years who devoted himself to me and our family but could never bring himself to say those three words. Your final line is a triumph! Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Pure romance contained in these lines - - and I love the final few words. An honest write.
