Just one chance?

What if once is all you get
and there’s no second chance
would you change the way
you play the game
Would you so quickly leave the dance

Would you try a little harder
Would you give up just as quick
If you knew
that me and you
Had just one chance and this was it?

Would you speak up in the first place
Would you even play the game
Is the fear of loss
not worth the cost
Thus avoiding fault or blame

How often have these very same thoughts assailed one's soul... you speak what others only nudge at... The regrets would be less if some thought entered into the picture well before the actions... Oh to be wise in hindsight... but then we wouldn't have such fine philosopher poets as yourself...

love how this closes- avoiding fault or blame- draws all the questions together.

Oops, that should be 'for NOT following our hearts"... Nadine

Good question, well put. I like the almost impersonal, observational questioning style of this poem. Some people would answer in the negative, though I think most would go for it, give it their all, and hang the consequences. But then, I find people in love do the daftest things! ;) kath xxx

I like this poem questioning and challenging and even saying "Am I worth it, or not? This is it, last chance!" In our last breath, would we have regrets for now following our hearts?! Enjoyed your message!......Nadine
