Brother, Can You Spare A Minute?

Hello my brother
Can you spare a moment?
So glad to see you

I've been down on my luck
Living in this alley these days
Always a meal or two in the trash

So how have you been keeping?
Good to hear about the wife and kids
I understand you don't want me visiting

Oh, you want to know about Mary?
She left me a couple years ago
My own fault, too much work

The job took away all my time
Mary was feeling a little rejected
So she found herself another lover

But the job decided to let me go
I kind of allowed myself to go to Hell
So I found myself without a job or home

Yeah I heard about little brother Billy
He joined the army and went off to fight
I miss him, I wish i went to the funeral

Oh, have you really got to go?
Yeah, I know it's been good to talk
My brother, you are always a busy man

Don't be a stranger now, visit soon
I am always living in ths alley, here
Always here, drinking my bottle of rye

Very profound Chris. My kind of poetry. Nice one!

Brilliant poem Chris that will strike a cord in many - maybe those who lost touch with a relative or disowned them because they drifted into a lifestyle that wasn't the norm in their eyes.

This poem brought a tear to my eye,as within each line you saw a picture of a broken man.The world will use you up and spit you out and leave you alone.So sad,but a good write %:>}

wow ! this is a sad write but it happens everyday/ kinda reminds me of a song i used to play a lot... "Before you went to work this morning in the city Did you spent some time with your family Did you kiss your wife and tell her that she's pretty Did you take your children to your breast and love them tenderly You got to Stop and Smell the roses You've got to count your many blessings everyday You're gonna find your way to heaven is a rough and rocky road If you don't Stop and Smell the roses along the way blessings to you for sharing this. take care.

A lot of people down on their luck these days. Each stanza was another hard turn and it detailed the way things can easily fall apart in quick succession. Friends feeling awkward now quickly disappear too. Reminds me of a blues song: Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out If you're feeling down...remember when it gets really bad is when it begins to get better. Here's a link to the song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsrA2fMn0sk&feature=fvw

Chris this hurts...it is so sad we give everything to our job and suddenly we are left with nothing - no job, no family and no home...and the worst is the people we know and want to connect with are now on the same bandwagon - a very well written piece.
