Devil Within

It covers the heart
claims all things
makes a mockery of beauty
unsuspecting , it waits
acts , claims
I can, I do , I know
pours scorn on the world
like a big bastard barnacle,
yet when prised from it's hold
it's gone
do not run after the covering
thinking you are naked
it's left you as you are
pure, beautiful,
why do we claim to know all
when we don't even know
who I is ,
confounded arrogance
stealer of hearts.

Edited to add.
Oh what a gift it would be
to see ourselves as other see. ( Robbie Burns)

And yes Mumukshu
the tongue , smallest member
most difficult to control.

Gem of a poem , deals with a subject that everyone wants to avoid yet know more about .....deftly handled and artistically delivered ....I like the Robbie Burns part very much ...

The devil and the god - in nutshell, we can define it as lower thoughts and higher thoughts. The gross and the subtle. Two ends of the same spectrum and nothing else. We can refine ourselves. That inner power is there. From gross to finer thoughts we can move up. The difference between Christ and Satan lies only in the degree of gross and subtle.
