Freedom Regained.

Like a close-woven garment stiflingly tight
'freedom' is tied close to the heart.
It yokes itself stiffly with shackling chains,
though it denies rusty fetters at the start.

Handcuffs of self-hate, or even of love,
embraced with misguided zeal create
strangling goals, enough to surround
any sensitive soul in time-tied braces.

True
liberty
requires
wise-eyed
deft-handling,
by understanding
which will stay quietly
by in the wings until called,
then on cue will unlock needy
places so smiles can again gleam
from the heart to replace the pseudo
and show quite unfettered that true
freedom can fly if, once regained
it is appreciated as the richest
of treasures ever gleaned
and which once worn
must be retained
as something
life needs
for its
joy.

When days,
dawned dull,
overly sad,
can be transformed to want-free warmth,
life S- - t- - r- - e- - a- - m- - s with de-iced
- - - - - - - - carefree dreams - - - - - - - -
as cultivated freedom arises without need
for escape,
ungirded,
head-high
and ever
unbound.

Enjoyed this immensely, Fay....From the powerful statements of social requirement to the astute metaphoric structural alignment. A stunning piece of artistry from stem 2 stern, indeed fair missy !FjR

Denial of freedom to the rusty fetters ...captures the state of being , state of mind very very well , it is the basic fabric of freedom....Misguided zeals create more problems , stifle this bird down and trim its wings ..and yes they let the spirit down as well....next stanza is a quick recipe and a how to solution for what the soul craves for ...deftly handled .....leads to a divine transformation at the end ....needless to say ....a fine write yet again ..

A superby crafted poem Fay, with sophisticated use of the metaphor. I particularly like the last stanza
