Obsolescence: The state of being which occurs when a person, object or service is no longer wanted.

Images of Obsolescence

Discarded detritus from deceased estates
waiting to be priced
or sent to the tip.

Faded boxes of once upon a time,
their fixed faces
forever smiling.

Battered bodies that lovers once bonked in
dumped at the wrecker
to pick over for parts.

Idle hands on rug-covered knees
sitting in rows
waiting for dinner.

It hits home. The last stanza completes a brilliant picture of what has been lost and is the present reality.

And stark and pitiful images they are Alison conjured up from your brilliant mind. The alliteration in your first line gives the first image great impact and "battered bodies that lovers once bonked" equally as impressive. Sadly, the last one is so very common as the elderly live longer now and if we visit in nursing homes this is what we see! Alas, these images do exist and you captured them so well!

Adeptly crafted stanzas graced with literary device and vivid imagery...but when the images of objects give way to the stark scene of 'Idle hands on rug-covered knees' this poem taps into the emotions and tugs at the heart taking the whole piece to a new level; poignant and perfect. :)

No wonder the aged live in memories, and the young try to recall their elders in their virile days.... Good imagery here.

Your use of alliteration brought every stanza alive in a very special way. Each portrait of obsolescence is written with an unerring eye for detail and the last, of course, goes straight for the heart.
