I'm looking back when you were here;when you showed me, there's nothing to fear;but now you're gone and I feel lost and alone;but you're with God, standing at his throne.
Today is my Dad's birthday and I wrote this poem for him on the 6 month anniversary of his death and today I've been looking back when he was here...He was a very good man and so loving...he also fought for this country in Vietnam and my family lost him to cancer last year on the 9th of December...he was always cracking jokes and making everyone laugh but now he's gone and it seems like all laughter has stopped...although he's gone, he's still with me in my heart and he's still alive in my memories...this poem is for him
Looking Back
By: Adam M. Snow
I'm looking back when you were here;
when you showed me, there's nothing to fear;
but now you're gone and I feel lost and alone;
but you're with God, standing at his throne.
I'm looking back at the times we've shared;
all those times we laughed and cared;
now you're gone, just like yesterday;
I find myself wishing you were here to stay.
It feels like a dream, you not here with me;
you're in heaven that I can see.
I'm looking back when you were here;
when you showed me, there's nothing to fear;
but now you're gone yet I still mourn;
as I remember your smile that never scorn.
I'm looking back now and again;
to those times we joked back then;
now empty, my life feels without you;
but I know you love me too.
I thank God for those memories of you and I;
but I still can't help myself but to cry.
Ohh Adam, this poem is very touching and it brought back memories of my dad who went ahead 10 years ago. Your dad will always be alive and with you and to the next generations of you family. Just live the values and the wisdom he has taught you and pass them all to your children that they will pass them on too. That is what i do now that my dad has gone ahead. Very beautiful poem....SMILE! THE DAY IS A NEW GIFT! :)emilou g.
