old lady who lived in a shoe

there was an old lady who lived in a shoe,
and living on a shoestring isn't easy to do,
so many children socked in the heel,
she couldn't see them all; she just had to feel;
so many children socked in the toe,
she couldn't find her baby for a day or so.

the shoe was in the closet, black as a hole,
all the children lay flat on the soul,
it was, by all description, a horrible mash,
and the old lady was definitely short on cash,
still, the old lady had to clean up the mess,
and come up with a new address.

I enjoyed the humor in this one. It can be quite inspiring to read the old nursery rhymes and come up with something crative of one's own.

I guess mothers and old ladies never win, clever additions to long remembered nursery rhyme.
