When you've barely said "hello"?
It seems the time we've been together
has been so short, not nearly long enough
to count as a fraction of 'forever'.

How do you say goodbye...
when the love you shared
was all you seemed to need?
It fed you, comforted you,
soothed you, and made you feel whole.

How do you say goodbye...
when apart is the greatest
distance you'll ever fear?
Empty spaces and distant hearts
seem too foreign to even contemplate.

How do you say goodbye...
when memories of love and peace
fill your mind like beautiful
wildflowers in wide open fields,
freely blowing in the gentle breezes?

How do you say goodbye...
when the words, like a foreign language,
don't form on the tongue?
This same mouth has expressed
your love, passion and devotion
almost since the day you met.

when all you want to do
is run to each other
and hide in the tender embrace
reserved only for you?

to your one true love?
...the one who touches your soul
and taught you what real love was
in the first place...

I really love the rhetoric this poem poses...its indeed so difficult to say goodbye !!!
A timeless question none of us can truly answer, your expressions of true love burn in the heart of the reader who tries to dare answer.
One of the toughest questions we never can get the answer to. Even if love rings on within you, it still seems hollow as mere memory.
