To look beyond the lights of the city
Beyond materialism's cold grip
To see the world as Jehovah sees it
A place of great sorrow in need of love
To look beyond the popular image
Of hyenas as unholy vermin
And sympathize with the ill-reputed
Bearing witness to their inner beauty
Oh, to look beyond her beautiful eyes
And to hear beyond her angelic voice
Into that soul God had put in her heart
And to fall far deeper in love with her
To look beyond the vile sins of my past
Beyond the fiend I see in the mirror
Searching for what good exists within me
And love myself as God would want me to
to know oneself is a great achievement attained by looking within and not beyond
