An imagined vision of Mother Earth's feelings
after years of abuse and neglect.

Chasing Sad Dreams.

I stepped through a maze of discarded places,
Chasing sad dreams I was greatly astounded
At such off-the-cuff scenes of confusing reality.
Second-hand rejects of images laced with reams
Of frustration, held lost opportunity hung from
Ceilings of past disapproval, old cast-0ff sacks
Of rejected beauty languished in hopelessly sad
Cases of ruined schemes, yet not wanting to leave
This miserable vision I saw more floating change.
Wounded cities, bald woodlands, polluted shores,
Blemished with memories so bad they hung sated
With bruise, suspended around each lonely place
Stood vats of dishonoured staining impregnated
With auras of thoughtless use, and forest floors
Conquered by silence lie doomed in lifelessness,
As trodden-down areas, once havens now abused
And awash with neglect, carry humanity's stain.
Dignity flawed, and no reason now for its being,
Earth in perplexity is no place of solace, it pained
Me to leave it uncared for - - it seemed so unfair.

You know how I feel about this subject, Faye. May the Earth bounce back and if it be at our expense, so be it. Very descriptive and worth coming back to again and again. I certainly will.

I agree with Ernestine, your poem reminded me of some Dali painting by the choice of expression and the effect it produces.Destruction, but with the touch of hope wherever we are...

Sad is such a fabulous word - short in length, but unequivocal in meaning. And your poem is a sad one indeed and beautifully written. Your internal rhymes and enjambment provide a solemn beat - like the Largo of a funeral march. Your message is important. Your voice sings in a minor key. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

So passionate is your voice here...It is unfair...You have raised our consciousness...and it is said that "The Meek Shall inherit the earth"...I believe this to be true...Man has ruined the earth but will never destroy it. Dorothy A Poet Who Loves To Sing

Is this the result of global warming, it sounds like a hell of dream. It conjures up a Dali painting to my mind, all confusion and ugliness. Well produced piece, with a lot of wonderful 'end of the world' type scenarios.

The sadness of the past is never a healthy place to revisit - you descibe the landscape with a lilting, desolate accuracy here Fay. kath xxxx
