Swallows Feeding 1 by Abysim

Open-Mouthed.

Lunchtime for swallows, winging in
to meet and cheat flight of newly arriving
insect-delight,
Is worth trying to see, it follows highest
of skills, defying the best
Speedometer readings,
And rapid as unseen air escaping from
fastest train-express.

Working birds dart in aerial speed skyward,
Almost as fleet as rarely seen flashes
of disappearing flies.
Winged skeins of hungry open-mouthed
Swallows swallowing invisible food
accelerate past ,showers of form
like jet-propelled, sea-starved proud
basking-sharks now airbourne.
Which leaves watching humans agape
and gasping.

Oh I do love the swallows and miss them all Winter long - I'm so glad you're keeping an eye on them during their Northern hemisphere sojourn, Fay.

Fay, from the magnificent chosen image to the intake of breath in the closing line, this poem is a triumph, and I just love; 'Winged skeins of hungry open-mouthed' - perfect. :)
