to save ones life a benign memory is most helpful

Memory Benign

Sultry summer night
Pontiac Fire Chief
red, black, no a/c
3 am, 2 lane road
smell of air windows bare
uncle Gene, aunt Lurline
first trip to Daddy Griff
bird dog curled front floorboard
arrive to coffee, four blooming
homemade biscuits fresh from a roll
in THAT wooden bowl
Journey IS the memory
won't let itself just fade

Gosh I feel just like I was there along on the trip too. Words are so magic and potent aren't they? I love your note at the top about benign memories too. It's so true though I admit I never quite thought of that before.
