To A friend Upon Retirement

It's not an end, but a new beginning
New music to play, a new song to sing
New goals await you, new challenges teem
A time to put shape to what was a dream.

You've paved the way for those who would follow
It's easier now, for you made it so
So smell the roses you missed yesterday
And savor each moment along the way.

Memories are treasures of the life you made
May sweet ones grow sweeter and bad ones fade
God speed and good fortune to you my friend
It's just a beginning and not an end.

I guess there is a new beginning in every ending - retirement in truth is just as you say, a state of mind
