All They Who Dare Take Umbrage With Wisdom............

There be a pontifical facade that exudes them-
all they..........who take umbrage with Wisdom,
who in truth fall anemic of Confidence, when -
consternation confronts their grandiose stage.

For it is these individuals....who be first to cast-
aspersion, first to wield th' Sword of Damocles,
pass Jury, Judgement....an' Sentence untrialed,
as if anointed by "The Christ Child"......Himself

Yet, they be the same ones to cowar whenever
they be thwarted by their own splintered Cross
of Courage...And the last to be seen when they-
be on th' block.........with their cards long folded.

Stark heroes are borne of..... humbled Wisdom
They are th' ones who take th' horns of th' Bull-
to th' ground..... with silent conviction......gently,
thus it be they, where others find their wisdom.

La, what a lovely tribute with superb imagery, reminding me, I hope not inappropriately, of the Lord's Word about the self-righteous, "...saying stand by thyself, come not near me, for I am holier than thou..."..a stink in [His] nose."(Is 65:?) As also the Lord's parable of the publican and Pharisee. Excellent and thought-provoking. a wonderful warning to heed.

Had to come back to this one, Dad. We are studying the work of some of the philosophic writers of the "Age of Enlightenment" period . And this poem came to mind. I had my Lit teacher print it out & we all read it in class today. Mrs. Cox says you're very, very good ! I agree! Love, Lauren Marie Elizabeth

A real work of wisdom FJR! When my 2 girls were still in school and whenever they needed help to do a homework, I used to help them understand the problems and instructions, let them do the work alone and then check their work and let them do it again on their own until they've done it right....SMILE! THE DAY IS A NEW GIFT! :)emilou g.

So true, those that listen to their own true selves always find the wisdom in our world, then without any fuss they solve the problems that they meet. Great poem Frank

Power corrupts and us lessor mortals suffer the indifference of our leaders. The only philosophy worth following is the practical kind....you know from use of it that it wqrks.

That's such profound truth spoken in such simple Biblical language... Yes, leaders whether in the world of religion or in the secular world forget soon they are there to serve...NOT replace what they are meant to serve...

As always Frank, your work reflects your command over the medium. it has a kind of classic feel. last stanza speaks of your convictions...' and thus it be they who stand poised and wisest. your work has authenticity. good to meet you here after a long time. missed you

Little Girl....You be careful. I am both proud & honored that you and your friends enjoy some of my work, really! However, there is a BIG difference between reading someones work and getting motivated to write something yourself, and reading someones work, and then perhaps without fully realising it, writing something that your friends Teacher may think she did not write due to certain aspects of the work that someone with very limited poetic writing experience could have possibly created herself . And this,Little Girl, could cause a tremendous amount of trouble for her & her reputataion with her Lit Teacher. So, I want you to hold off on giving Bea or anyone at your school samples/copies of my work, at least for now.. And, when you get home from school later today, you & i will discuss howwe can possibly help Bea with her Lit project in a way that her Teacher would agree to,okay ? And, if Bea asks about the copy of the poem....just tell her what i said...and if theres a problem with that, i will talk to her for you, personally !Have a good day, honey!Dad

Morning Dad !Had to print this one out for Bea.She has to write her own poem on courage , and i thought this would give her some idea's. I don't fully understand everything about the poem, because you have pumped it up with all your fancy diction. But i get the general idea, and Bea says she read this poem when you posted it on poemhunter.com last winter, and that she gets it.Thought i'd read it again, anyway.Great poem, Dad ,again ! Such a beautifully written homily that shares its truth with innate musicality. You wield words of weight and grace to challenge your arrogant masters with their 'pontifical facade' who 'cast aspersion' and condemn those humbler souls 'chiseled from poise /n Wisdom'. Your final strophe in particular is magnificent. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Ah, now this is vintage FJR work. Sometimes I feel so inept when I read your work, Frank. If I write for another 40+ years, I'll never come close to your level of talent. This is simply brilliant - full of wisdom and deeply introspective.

never did like that "With age comes wisdom".....some never learn and keep repeating their mistakes ...one has to stand-up pause and look upon their actions...that's where poise and confidence roots

A wonderful poem frank. Love the enjambment a lot. Nice forward thrust to the piece due to the enjambment. I like the black sword as well as the splintered cross. and this closure: well it speaks for it's sell. The image and verbs are just grand. A very powerful statement. Silent Heroes are chisled from poise 'n Wisdom // They are th' ones who take th' horns of th' Bull-// to th' ground.... with silent conviction.....gently,// and thus it be they who stand poised and wisest// A really great write. Love this poem,Dad. It is how you would say very powerful and impacting. I think when someone has lots of wisdom, and logic that theyautomatically become a very poised person as well because their wisdom gives them confidence. Great poem,Dad ! Love, Lauren Marie Elizabeth xo
