Great Minds Are Daily Rampant

Great minds are daily rampant, they are we
That taste and learning heartily espouse
In word or art or tone, as it may be
For dormant hearts with vigour we arouse
Great statesmen shall their fripperies expound
To fall on deaf or disbelieving ear
But music of the soul will long resound
When foolish empty words shall disappear
Convene the rightful leaders of the flock
Whose musing eyes see more than mere self-pride
With chains and barricades the chamber lock
And sweep all shallow politics aside

Whose musing eyes see more than mere self-pride With chains and barricades the chamber lock...these 2 lines are to me especially wonderful...every word is true.Fabulous work.

Wow, Phil, this really does take on the Bard's style. You've got the language, syntax and nuance dead right. Forsooth, 'tis a good 'un! PS Lines 9 & 10 could stand alone and be an Election slogan here just now, when we hope to kick out of office the most corrupt and degenerative bloody Government that this country has ever had! Bah! Humbug! There, I've said my piece, but I will burn those two lines into my brain by repeating them forthwith: 'Convene the rightful leaders of the flock' 'Whose musing eyes see more than mere self-pride' PPS Thanks for joining Chuckle Street and the FR Poetry. I reckon you should post this superb poem on FR Poetry cos it's a bloody belter! Regards, Ray
