With apologies to G.M. Hopkins.

Dappled Rock by RoystonVasey

For Dappled Things.

Oh Glory Be for dappled things.
Mosaic shades
in mountain springs.
Chess-board fields.
Tessalated
tree rings
And chequered grassy lanes.

Applause for freckled water newts.
Red flushes
in round-appled fruits.
Inlaid brownish earth
of tree roots .
And striated barley-grains.

Brindled colts. Marbled bullock's hide.
Piebald ponies.
Wide pattern-lines
On bumble-bees.
A kitten's eyes.
And oily water-stains.

Pied wagtails.
Patchworked butterflies.
Toddler's cheeks.
Harebell's necker-ties.
Furrowed fields.
Speckles on a hen's thighs
And rain-washed window-panes.

Glory Be for freckled things.

Aaah, this is delightful! I'm a country boy with an appreciation for nature, and your delightful poem just "sings" of nature! Nature's camouflage scheme includes many a dappled coat!

My freckles say three hurrahs to this lovely poem. I love the dappled shades made by a over hanging branch in a forest mountain stream. Thank you Fay loved it

Now this is well done from beginning to end . The reader is never taken off course and never loses focus on the sentiment being communicated . The best part is the word flow within the lines a quality exhibition of writing skill . ---------------- Greenwolfe 1962

Gerard Manley would be thrilled to see how his words have become the springboard for such a fabulous poem, alive with images that make the reader nod and say 'of course!' You should meet our cat, Sadie. Her legs don't match, her face is crooked and her tortoiseshell coat is dappled to piebald/skewbald perfection. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

A rare canvas of patches with different shades like life. And the painter knows the curves well.

A charming piece, Fay. You continue where Hopkins ends off; a list like this can never be complete. I'm so happy you included the bumblebees and hens.
