Orange Sky over Blue Hills by Steve Slimm

I Became Free.

There was once, for a short while,
months ago,
When rainbows showed daily, and sun
began raining
Down showers of stardust-like
blossoms of snow,
That I, walking on air, learned
laughter again
Because I felt loved, life
was lighthearted.
Then I became free.

Everyone started to wear
a broad smile.
I began to hug trees, the sea parted
for me,
and grass grew into
soft springy piles of temptation
to roll on,
As I became free.

For the time I felt loved,
the world changed into sugar-caned
fairyland,
the moon shone green,
poems rhymed.
Without trying, my life stretched
woke up and shook,
And I became free.

For me feeling loved had brought
heaven to earth.
Now, although he has gone the
memory's alive
and I often
run back for all I am worth
to feel
once again the thrill of revival
When I became free.
