A follow-on verse, inspired by Tom's fine Villanelle - -- "They Did Not Know" .but this time in prose.

For The Fallen

No more for them the springing
daffodils.
Youthful thrills are gone,
dreams of love
have died.
They laid aside life, but still left
their will
Now living in us,
and we
tho crying
Can either dry tears and start
listening hard
To catch part worded signs felt
on the edge
Of unrealised dreams, where
alive, hope
still keeps guard,
Or weep more rivers of defeat.
Their pledge
is seen to reinvest peace on earth,
we trust
They have not gone in vain,
because
listening hearts
Will hear, in hero's voice, much
sacrifice should
Run its course and win for
these departed
A reason for their laying down
such life.
Their gift must light the way
to end all strife.

Very touching and thought provoking. Why does anyone need to make such sacrifices as these? It's very difficult to appreciate all that they have given up.

I pray with you that strife will end but freedom dies as lies and bloated bureaucrats push freedom out the door...

A reason for their laying down such life. Their gift must light the way to end all strife. Love the concluding lines of this thought provoking piece Fay...You make a positive point about humanity - if only it can be made a reality

'No more for them the springing daffodils' introduces this tribute with a sunny face. Instead of sinking into the mud of war, you use the theme of its sacrifice to remind the reader to learn, grow and above all, listen. 'Their gift must light the way to end all strike.' concludes your poem with the same optimism and faith in humanity. This is not a rant, but a poem to make a difference. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
