she looked into the future, saw nothing but disspear,
she was the little girl that was forgotten,
she was the girl that is till there.

StarGazing SlumChild

The air was hot and full of dust,
The ground always dirty and cold,
There were children running around in rags,
Ranging from so young to quite old,

I'd watch as they'd race through the rubbish,
picking up recycable goods on the way,
Watching quietly in the shadows,
Maybe i'd escape this lost world some day,

The men would come and see what we'd collected,
Seeing if it was even ever enough,
Sometimes children would not have anything,
Then the men would take them and beat them rough,

In the slums you'd have to be careful,
Careful of where you slept at night,
Where you rested in the day,
Was still no safe from mosquito bite,

I looked deep into the future
but all i found was disspear,
I am the little girl thats forgotten,
I am the little girl thats still there.

So sad that the 'little girl that's still there' will carry those wounds on. Tragic neglect and abuse...you depict it well.

You could not have described it better, Charlotte. I hope you will read my poem "Mean Street." I wrote mine about my impressions of certain parts of Chicago, but like yours, it could have been any big city. Keep writing.

This poem opens ones eyes to the harsh reality of poverty. You penned this well and created a clear picture for the reader to see.

Sad tale, I wish that this world sees the children are our future. Well written my friend.

A poem that touches the heart as it paints its grim picture of childhoods lost to dust and despair, and all in rhyme too. A powerful write. :)
