Fourth in the series of nine verses on Lady Elizabeth's Fate. - - hope you enjoy.

'Running Away', Victorian japanned snuff box, 1830 - 1840, LP81 by Black Country Museums

Elizabeth's Capitulation.

Ere she arrives,
..................... her lover derides her.
Seeks to advise her
.......................... to forego this bliss.

They had dreamt of this,
.....................and were all prepared
For ardour,
................ but not for events amiss

They cling to their passion,
................................. vow devotion,
Behave as youth must do
............................. then he proposes
A death-pact if consent
............................ is not motioned
By acceptance from kin,
.......................... now a staunch foe.

What could they do,
................ the portents were against
Such senselessness,
............ but was time their defence.?

The Elizabeth saga continues - the idea of serialising this piece is terrific.....What happens now

What could they do, in the name of love? It drives us, rightly or wrongly, down paths we never would have taken, if it wasn't for love. I wonder where it finally drives Elizabeth?
