Women and displacement: facing up to hardship by ICRC

Behind The Smile.

I catch somehow
the view
of inside tears in eyes
that peer
shyly
from furrowed brow.

Behind the smile
bravely
shown for camera
lens,
the pretence ends
as
all the while
endless
dry red dust
surrounds the sound
of home
falling,
wall by broken wall,
but
smile she must.

Homeless now,
with age-old grit
she sits,
aware
her world has stopped.

Another bomb
- -
in error,
- -
dropped.

Such a sad piece, but rings true in so many places around the globe. Well done Fay as usual.

Made me think Fay, how many people in our world lead life in abject poverty, to add to their misery someone makes war on them!! Thank you for this.

Rivetting. You weaved that tale right to the surprising end. Inhumanity well expressed.
