Inspired by my good friends Michael Shepherd, M. Scott Peck and A A Milne.

Pooh Bear and Christopher Robin discuss Listening

‘Tell me about listening’ said Winnie the Pooh to CR one day
when they were sitting together in a thoughtful spot
and the sun was hummy.

‘There’s lots of different sorts of listening.’
CR explained, ‘It depends.’

‘On what? ’ said Pooh amiably.

‘On how you feel, I suppose.

For instance, there’s the "listening when you’re not" sort of listening
which you do when Rabbit is rabbiting on about something that
doesn’t really matter.’

‘I know that sort’, said Pooh.

‘Then there’s the "half listening" sort of listening,
when you sort of do and you sort of don’t.’

‘Like when Piglet’s telling you a very exciting story
and you can’t listen properly cos your tummy’s rumbling? ’

‘Precisely’.

‘Or when Eeyore’s feeling specially gloomy,
so you make "there there" sort of noises instead of listening.’

‘The very same’.

‘What other sorts of listening are there? ’
Pooh asked eagerly.

‘Then there’s "real listening"
when you put aside everything else
and turn off your own mind completely.’

‘Like I’m doing now? ’ said Pooh.

‘Like you’re doing now.’ said C R.

‘I like listening to you Christopher Robin.’ said Pooh.

‘I like listening to you too, Pooh.'

This is such a charming and sweet poem Allie and it brought a smile to my lips ...and although you have put in all the lovable characters of the Hundred Acre Wood ...this definitely speaks to people of all ages and tells them what listening is all about:)

Ha haaa, I have no idea how on earth I missed this piece when you first posted it. This is endearing, charming and also very sweeeeeeet..lol Still, again you give good message to the reader on how we should learn to listen with an attentive ear, lol, cause these days some people never care to listen. Nice.

I am failing to resist the temptation to say that this is so 'cute'! It's more than that though: you have captured the Milne style of elegant simplicity where a kid and a bear cut through the forest that psychologists have been erecting impenetrably for generations. You are all wonderfully 'Pooh Sticks', Allie, and I can think of no better plaudit than that! Loved it! Tony

The true art of listening is definitely a road less travelled, and this gorgeous Pooh-esque poem takes the reader on a journey through one hundred acres of wisdom on the huggable, cuddlesome route - I've loved every step. :)
