Life and its Purposes by Steve Slimm

Beyond Enlightenment

It's all about Love you say -
And all about Love it is.
Love Yourself first -
Then all other things;
And don't be deterred
By those who resist -
Who cannot see the light
That silhouettes
Your divine image.

You're pressing on
To make the world perfect -
And fast-track your
Own enlightenment.

Well done - I salute you
For all your Becoming -
All the divine irridescence
You're able to spread.
And yes - the world needs you,
With your brilliant cascading
Firework displays
That mark your illuminated Soul.

Your'e moving forward
Unstoppable;
And who am I
To gainsay your gift?

But remember please:
As bright as you are
Is as bright as you've been granted;
That despite all your
Noblest efforts,
Your Source is your gift -
The nurtured foetus,
The tenderly-shaped infant
That became who you are,
And is able to shine as you do.

Do not assume
In your loving ignorance
That all paths need
To follow yours.

It's all about Love you say -
And all about Love it is.
But forget not please
The bitter-sweet Soul
That could not wait
To be free of a womb
Whose overwhelming urge
Was to quake with Fear;

And forget not the child
Whose only reminder
Was of shortcomings -
And of being 'bad'.

If it's all about Love as you say -
Then let it be not about You;
Let it be rather about this one -
This one who strains so hard
With every fibre of existence
To shake off the shakles
Of a nightmare beginning -
Flesh-ridden and hollow.

Love her first -
Then watch her rise
From the ashes of despair,
Into the outstretched
Awaiting arms
Of a Love that
Transcends enlightenment.

I often like poems and don't really know what more to say in a comment, this poem needs no comment from me, all about Love it is. Thank you, David.

A strong and powerful piece which invites thought about the meaning of Love - -- the "nightmare beginnings" that are the shackles of some remind us of need to show unconditional compassion which ,as the title of this verse aptly states, is "beyond enlightenment" A philosophical gem.
