I Don't Like Long Poems by pattimast

I Don't Like Long Poems

You see, I don't like long poems
My attention span is not so long,
And the birds are busy through the window;
I'm so afraid I'll miss their song.

Birds don't last long, in this world,
As my mind grows shorter than a fuse,
Lit at the business end of a stick
Of dynamite, and that's no ruse.

You see, I don't like long poems;
For I'm growing older by the clock
And I've things to say to this old world,
And tombstones aren't well known to talk.

I've things to say, and people's eyes
Are wandering, while I have my say;
Seems I talk faster all the time,
Before the light runs out of day.

You see, I don't like long poems;
My shadow's shorter every year
I don't have endless hours to read-
There's words I'd really rather hear.

'Peoples eyes wandering' did it for me and I always pick when they are not interested by this. A great idea for a poem and you have crafted a witty and extremely enjoyable medium length poem. (lol).

Clever write...quite long for a short poem you are talking about! I liked it though.

Ah, yes... this has spoken my sentiments; in your usual splendid style, of course. :-)

Verbosity is the scourge of poetry. This light-hearted parody demonstrates that fact - rather cleverly Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Lol, I like the comments this one has received. But that said, there are some lines here that are quite sad. My shadow's getting shorter every year for instance. Okay, you've left me not knowing whether to laugh or cry at this one... Nice medium kinda write all the same.

It sounds as if you are having a hard time getting to the point, which can be said in so few words, saving you the worry of a long poem. Great write, I really enjoyed the read. Thank you.

I prefer short poems, too. Having said that, I love The Raven.
