Flying Dutchmen

Cast adrift
In the sea of denial

As tempest thoughts
Fuel the winds
Of pain and desire

Waves of sorrow
Lap at my soul

As my spirit drowns
In the undertow

Lost and forlorn
To the mariners light

I fade into nothing
Like a ship in the night

This wonderfully constructed poem really speaks to me about those times when life seems to be surrounded by the darkened moods and downturns visited upon us. I love the title, too. Though it has nothing to do with this poem, there just happens to be a fantastic bakery on my side of town called The Flying Dutchman that makes the most wonderful pastries I've ever eaten. Anyway, this poem is marvelous.
