Respectfully Yours

At the bottom of her letter,
She wrote,” With all my love, respectfully yours”
And sealed the envelope with a red lip stick kiss.
In a love letter sent across the sea,
To a solider boy she so dearly missed.

The letter came back, with a stamp upon,
“Return to sender please”
For her lover had found another,
In the warmth of its Southern exotic seas.

A dark haired beauty with deep brown eyes,
Younger and scantly clad.
She had stolen the heart of this solider boy,
While breaking another’s and leaving her sad.

The war had taken its toll of lives,
One day it took this wandering solider boy.
No tears were shed by his brown eyed beauty,
Yet, were silently shed by his lady set ahoy.

For her love was true and purely given,
His brown eyed beauty could shed not one.
For hers was just playful folly,
With a lonely solider boy who strayed too far from home.
