While its yet Valentines Day here in the Midwest and February is overcast, half misty and snowy wet, happily the inspiration of romance and summer's pleasures inspired (for whatever reason) and here is a little morsel....would he like it if he exists? [Note: L14 was a toss up of which 2-syllable word to excise. You can guess what the deleted one is.]
(sonnet # DXLIV)
Let's wander in the gloaming as the light
In whispers fades; while Robins twitter their
"Goodnights" half urgent as th'ev'ning falls; ere
By subtly graying, the colours wane to bright
Romantic silver moonlit scenes; while slight
Vague hues remain, let's loiter softly there,
Our fingers intertwined, hearts just aware
Of that delicious time, in sweet delight.
O Valentine, when all's at length serene;
When frogs' bass serenade and cricket trills
The symphony for tender dark's soft mien
In rich melod'ous strains then swells and thrills;
Where lunar escapades invite, their sheen
Of haunting white o'erspread, let's taste what spills.
