"The China Doll"

An ancient and lovely China Doll
sat polished and perfect against the wall
a treasure perfect, scarce, and rare
with knowing eyes and ebony hair.

She was perfect and priceless, and a thousand years old
she was worth more even than her weight in gold!
Yet a heated moment in a lovers squall
caused a book to be hurled against the wall.

And, like Humpty Dumpty, the ancient doll
fell from her perch and made a fall
to break into pieces a hundred times ten
she could never be put together again.

An ancient treasure had ceased to exist
while two young lovers made up and kissed
and gathered the pieces of the ancient doll
leaving a shelf unfilled at her space on the wall.

Life changes in an instant and isn't fair
like the beautiful doll with ebony hair
who graced man's presence for a thousand years
whose beauty brought even some viewers to tears.

Her pieces would be buried in a forgotten landfill
her priceless art would be covered and still
a careless act, almost a crime
had vanquished her beauty for all of time.
