Who Are The Real Animals

We place as one poet said,
Animals in cages for their safety and our muse.
But who are the animals, I say?
I think we may have things confussed.

Some say most are endangered,
And man must save them all from extinction.
Yet, if left alone in their native homes,
Would have seemed to me, the better of distinction.

Our pollution and over lumbering practices,
Have killed off many a bird and beast.
The prey and seeds they use to eat,
Were taken or left a polluted treat.

Oil spills, and giant smoke stacks billows,
Pouring out their toxins into waters and blue sky.
Was more harmful to beast and mankind,
Than what the bars of an animal cage provides.

You hit the nail on the head with this one Linda. We could learn so much from animals if we would only take the time. Don't take more than you need, be loyal to those you love, care for each other etc. Terrific poem!

Yeah... ha ha... but we're party animals, and therein lies the difference.

For the beast (and human), to live in pollution or within bars is an uninviting catch-22. Our world politics often leaves us with such sorry choices. Thanks for writing!
