Elena S Oh dear friend , I have learned this on the hard way ,( sigh).. We, the parents, as well as the society , are pushing endless limits to our children .. indeed it is very true, the most happy child is the one who has freedom and smiles. Great poem, loved it, thank you Fay!
Jenny Gordon Lovely and thought-provoking, seemingly economic tribute to the delicate balance of child-raising. The form as well as wording, coupled beautifully with the perfect visual fascinates and teases, as it were poignantly inviting the exploration in rereading. I enjoyed it.
Raj Arumugam beautifully true, Fay...and yet many parents and adults do not see the beauty of this, more the pity...and let us not forget the child within ourselves too...your poems show vividly the beautiful child in you, as you share with us your awe and love of nature, for example...
kath This is simply wonderful Fay and has to be read by every adult who ever passed on their fears of creepy crawlies and their hang ups about life to children. Children are not naturally afraid of things. They are exploring a world that is all new to them. Yes, we need to keep them from harm, but not at the expense of their spirit. How can I not recommend something I so strongly believe in when it is expressed so very beautifully? Yor message applies to all, child and adult alike. For your child inside, Bravo Fay!!!! :) kath xxx
Kesav V Easwaran Another nice write, with an advice, on the science of child upbringing...yesterday only I read one piece- a Tanka- on a similar subject posted by another poet- Maggie
carol questionsa always answered and curiosity encouraged
Karin Anderson This is really interesting Fay as I listened to a talk about this yesterday. If children are stifled they find it difficult to come to terms with the real world when they leave home. Your last stanza says it all to watch growth light up the child inside. It was also pointed out it is up to the parent to use moderation as they see fit.
Gerard Lebel Another little gem! Curiosity in the child should be nourished for sure. Thought provoking read.....Jerry (*_*)
La Finita Nice rhyme and rhythm. The balance between uncontrolled freedom and healthy curiosity is nicely potraited here, Fay.
Fay Slimm The freedom about which I write here Yacov is limited to allowing curiosity - I do agree with your point raised that freedom for total self-expression is a complex and questionable one. Therein lies responsability and discipline of both parent and child. Many thanks for your extensive comment and shall read your poem Mother To Son.
Kendzi Some excellent child-rearing advice here Fay. Don't have kids, but I imagine this is sure how I'd raise 'em.
Debs Excellent piece of advice here Fay, I am doing it.
RAJ NANDY True Fay , the school & the teachers have a very responsible role to play in the 'formative years' in making them into good citizens ! But here I find , education is highly commercialised & they are being taught only about securing percentages for admission into professional institutions at a later age !! All teachers should read this poem ! -Raj
Sandra Martyres You are right Fay, give a child her space and freedom and watch her grow...
