liquid gold

i took our rings, shining gold
held them in my hand for a second
then closed my hand into a fist,
i squeezed so hard
till liquid gold slipped thru my fingers
and pooled on the floor.

and i cried to the heavens above,
this is not fair!
twenty five years together
and now gone like a wisp of dust.
