Everything Counts

Have you noticed
The delicate subtlety
Of slow melting ice?
Did you see as the trees
Stretched out their limbs,
Did you hear the flapping
Of the butterflies’ wings?

Did you notice the man
Hardly moving at all
Asleep on the bench
Under the ancient stone wall?
Did you feel the touch
Of a word whispered nearby,
Did you sense when its time
To say that final goodbye?

Did you hear the pleading
In the loud man’s head
When he told you he’s fine
And he’s going to bed?
Do you feel the stars
Moving across inky skies,
Do you notice the poet
That silently cries?

Did you see in the eyes
Of the picture she made
The sadness which says
That she never forgave?
Did you hear high above
The loudness that shouts,
Those very quiet things
That say everything counts?
