Lets Just Kiss

The postman
brought a package,
it was not in fancy wrap,
just simple plain brown paper,
I reconized the handwriting
and the return address scribbled
on the back.

Inside I found a note
scripted by you, saying
"please play side one
cut number two."
I sat right down and played it,
and right I way I started to cry,
someone was singing sorrowfully,
"Let just kiss and say good-bye."

I played that song over and over,
Oh Lord I just wanted to die
but the person kept right on singing
that sad song of good-bye.
I picked up the telephone and I
dialed your number just so you
could tell me, it was'nt true.
But at the sound of my first "Hello"
you said...
"Play side one, cut number two!"

A Poet Who Loves To Sing

I wrote this back in the early 80's laughing with my sister when the Commodores with Lionel Richie came on the radio singing "Let's Just Kiss and Say Good-bye " ...this was my answer to their song...my sister and I laughed so hard after I had written this.
It still gives me a chuckle...
