What I Like About Winter...in answer to Jenny's question

I love the sounds of winter
And the fancy way she dresses
When it snows...
I love the ice kisses she throws
From roof tops and trees
Icicles crystal clear
Forming and falling like tears
From the eyes of deserted lovers...
I love the crunch-crunch of her
Padded spaces and the way
Winter laces snow flakes falling
In piles of glee...
Snow angels, wide and free
Big and small, ah, come one,
Come all.
What I like about winter, is my new song
Now I must run along to fetch my sled
And tumble over and over in my snow bed...
Oh, I hear the voices of children at play,
Winter!
Winter!
You have made my daydreams come true!

Very playful and gleeful. I like the moving rhythm and flow as well as the internal and external rhymes. Very enjoyable spreading the true spirit of winter.

What a joy this poem is Dorothy! The magical imagery captures my heart and this would make a beautiful childrens' poem as well as for adult readers. I have read Jenny's Winter Sonnet too and the pair of you are wonderful writers on Poetfreak!

It doesn't sound like rain to me. It's more like the softness of flaky snow. Which I really love for a short visit, but I detest day after day. Shoveling snow is not my idea of fun. Snow is alright in small bunches. Rain runs away as it comes; it's far better. :-) Eeyore said that. Pooh is around the corner doing tiddelly poms A poet friend..RH Peat

Awesome, superb reply to my question! La, I never guessed it would inspire. This amply conveys the delicious pleasures and enchanting enticements of Winter with excellent and apt imagery. I could envision it all, as the excitement bubbled through the lines, poignantly conveying the sentiments. I am still hoping to write a sonnet mentioning the fun of the crunching snow underfoot, but you've beat me to it by mentioning it here. Wonderful!!! Thanks so much.
