Note: I thought I had posted this a few weeks ago,
but could not locate it in my archives. So here it is again:

“Politics: “Poli” a Latin word meaning “many”;
and "tics" meaning “bloodsucking creatures”.”
-Robin Williams

I am not what you think,
Nor what the tabloids have said.
I'm trustworthy and shifty,
Despite what you've read.
I'll listen to your ideas,
Or I will make it seem so.
Oh, you've my full attention
As far as you know.
I'll take your suggestions,
For we're in fabulous shape -
And I'll tussle them up
In ten years of red tape.
It's just what I do,
And I'll do what I can.
Until my job is through,
For you know where I stand.
I'm ever concerned with our
Fine and fair Economy,
And for tweaking the taxes
We raised recently.
And making this world
A far safer place,
For me, or you maybe,
Should we meet face to face.
I'll shake your hand kindly
And I'll talk up a storm.
That's the one single purpose
Speech writers were born.
To help us tell you
What you all want to hear,
To make us seem rational,
Trustworthy, and clear.
As though we care, and we do.
Oh, we do, do, do, do,
We care a lot about things
That may one day include you.
I keep tabs on all the
Current events of our time,
So the things that I say
Will sound scholarly prime
And from time to time
I'll may add something new,
Which I'm quite positive
I shoplifted from you.
For I do need a raise,
And a shiny new car.
A yacht on the lake,
With a fully stocked bar.
Just a touch of new wealth
Directed my way.
Now that, my dear friend,
Will certainly cheer up my day.
So get out and Vote!
And remember my name!
It's all fun and war
In this politics game.

And so....we vote for the lesser of the evils, or at least the one who sounds like he is saying what we think we want to hear, neither of which may be true, to the best of our knowledge. Politics is definitely a game played by "many bloodsucking creatures", whom I prefer to call insects. Excellent penning, Richard. You expressed it perfectly.
