A Modern Our Father

Our Father
Wherever you are
I have trouble
Praising your name

What is it with that kingdom
So many eagerly proclaim?
And about your will
I am constantly confused.

All these tornadoes and floods
Droughts and tsunamis.
There were enough of those
In Biblical times.

We don’t seem to be learning our lessons.
We need other kinds of corrective action.
Can’t you come up with something new?
Other than AIDS I hope (no more SEX stuff please).

All I ask for is the help to carry on,
To meet each day with optimism – some call it hope.
May it reign forever ――.

I’m including your forgiveness for my transgressions
In the same measure that I forgive others theirs.
That’s only fair.

So be it, so it has been, so it will be.
I ask for nothing more.

I know it is your way or no way.
Let it be. Glory is all yours.
