spider by Andy Hawthorn

Spider

Another spider!
Where do they all come from?
Big in diameter, this one,
though her legs
(a female, surely)
are scarcely thicker than
the strands of her web.
Curiously agile, though so spindly,
she scuttles like some fairy robot
as I pursue, tickling my hand
as I give her to the garden.
Well, it's bad luck to kill them, isn't it?

I dunno whether 'tis bad luck or no, Maestro, but me likes them only from a very safe distance....unless maybe, they chance to be a "Daddy Long Legs." Beautiful rendering of the little 8-legged lady and sweetly gentlemanly treatment of your subject. Excellent imagery and thought-provoking, poignant theme. I quite like it.

Yes it is said to be bad luck, I use to do that too , hahaha, if one of my family members screams for me , I know I have to run for the tissue box . The lucky friend if not too big ends up alive in the garden . Most of the times, I lalways feel sorry if .. otherwise . Good point I love your kindness , yet as much as I wish to let them live I would jump in fear if I'd feel them on my skin.

I have caught them and transferred them often myself. Seems they only want to co-exist and share the planet. I think if they could ponder it, they would be very confused about why these giants are afraid of them so. Susan

Not if it's a black widow, brown recluse or hobo spider - I've changed my outlook completely since moving to Texas!! I now kill them before they kill me! lol

Love the line... "Tickling my hand as I give her to the garden" I think we all can relate to this, a delightful write indeed.
