Bottle Collection

Painting by Sadie J. Valeri

May our lives not be still
But harnessed by mind and will

May our lives not be empty
But stuffed with fertility

May our lives be waxed over
Sparkling with a polished cover

I wish life were not warped and crinkled
But alas our faces will know some wrinkles

What a life promises to be
Is more a question of inner quality

Sure it must first be grounded in gesso
And later day by day glazed with deeds of gusto

When we feel crumpled, twisted, and crushed
That’s the time to listen to the song thrush

Not let ourselves be blown by nature’s whims
Not like polished bottles overflowing their rims

Sometimes we will need to make a stand
Or stay the course and change our stance

We should not mind life’s transparency
As long as we can plainly see our destiny

Day by day we need to bottle up our esthetics
Without a past there will be no collectable antiques.

A delightful piece in rhymed couplets . To have the strength of character to follow the philosophy would indeed be totally fulfilling. I feel that like most, I have strayed from the strong messages within.

quite a philosophy of life Ben; quality of life simply depends on how we respond to it- alive, trying, letting go, acceptance, adjustment, appreciation of what is- tough call the last couplet is simply a gem
