Alone Together

I sang a new song for you
with each budding sunrise.

You nurtured my joyous tunes
with a blissful smile
as you motored the
red Rabbit Volkswagen
through rush hour traffic;
foot to clutch…
bumper to bumper…
onward to Boston.

The long, hectic workday awaited us…
but within those brief
early morning moments
alone together…
sharing secrets and
shedding anonymity,
we discovered an unexpected song…
bonding two hungry hearts
alive with promise.
