The Darkest Hour

Few stars are speckled here and there
In the night sky ever so gray
The only other light is that of
The moonbeam sending its soft ray.

The night, wrapped in tranquility
Lies peaceful, calm and still.
Mist and fog seem to hug the night air
Which bears a mysterious chill.

In darkness is everything enveloped
The moon looks from overhead
Birds forget to sing, twitter and jump
Is this what is called “silence of the dead”?

The only sound is that of silence,
The only indication that of peace
No flower seems to sway playfully,
The air lies still, without a breeze.

Slowly, a light appears at one end
Birds break into a melodious song
Happiness spreads with the faint light
The plants seem to dance along

It lights up slowly, giving new hope
The silence vanishes, the darkness is gone
Indeed what they say is true
The darkest hour is before the dawn!
