let's jingle some cliches

in another couple of days, christmas will be here.
old ideas of joy, and warmth, and sharing
will decorate our statuses, and our walls will be
free for all to post even more boring words.

but then, maybe that's what we need to wash us.
that's what we need to cleanse ourselves in.
it's time to give in to the old fashioned
succour of peace and rum cakes.

for we spend our days finding fault.
we excel in criticizing. we hate the regular.
we despise the ordinary. average thoughts
and humans are trash heaps that we don't see.

all of us are tomcats when it comes to saying
mangled bits about others. delight is when we win
at any cost, every time. besides, belittling people
and our own country is our national pastime.

we raucously enjoy when friends of ours
shred whatever little pride we have as a country.
however no one can really can't blame anyone,
because we do live in an eternal work in progress.

there's so much spite, animosity, and rancour.
it's a reflex for us to jeer at life in general.
we are upset with everything, cross at everyone.
no day is complete till we totally thrash someone.

when was the last time we stopped and appreciated?
when was the last time we let it be?
when was the last time we said, it's ok, mistakes happen.
when was the last time we allowed pity?

when was the last time we yanked our hands back
from honking at a driver slower than us?
when was the last time we genuinely dropped our guard,
or softened our words?

nope, i am not sure we have been kind.
or generous. or benevolent. to anyone.
we don't tolerate. we don't forgive. we don't step back.
it's in our fabric to fight, to scream, to curse, to abuse.

it's like a right. liberty isn't just the freedom
to stick your middle finger at someone struggling
to cross the road. or at the waiter who didn't smile.
it's about accepting that all of us are as imperfect.

at some level, all of us have let ourselves down
as human beings. dignity, respect, honour, patience,
humility, courage and every grace has been ignored.
left by the wayside. orphans abandoned.

we can always argue that none of us are as heartless
or cruel or evil. of course we aren't. just that our contexts
have made us into this mass of insensitivity.
fools deserve to be teased. weak deserve to be flogged.

look at the days gone by. and we will see the ghosts
of egos we slew, and the bones of the hearts we broke.
we were merciless. our tongues sharp. our retorts acidic.
we have had an year of living to kill.

maybe we need to give ourselves an honest break.
after being exacting, impatient, harsh, and superior,
maybe we need to pause and be human.
allow the slow, encourage the meek, and let everyone be.

after all it's christmas time, let's be happy with our warts.

You are right , its time we stopped and paused to think . Its time we stooped to kiss the fallen rosebuds , its time to celebrate the embrace that's gift of humanity .
