I dedicate this verse to my dear friend Sandra Martyres who has been instrumental in making me take my maiden metro ride in my city.
On a chilly and windy
Tuesday morning at ten o'clock,
I get a pleasant surprise -
a call from my dear friend,
Sandra Martyres.
She says she can meet me
but for a very brief time.
I am delighted as she's so kind
to spare a few moments
even with her packed schedule.
So she takes a ride in her car
from Whitefield to MG Road
and I take my maiden metro ride
from CMH Road to MG Road
and we meet just outside 'The Pavilion'.
We decide to go to Cafe Coffee Day
in front of Barton Centre
and chat over a cup of coffee -
espresso for her and
cappuccino for me.
She narrates her experiences
in Paris and in Bangalore
and we talk a bit about
banking and poetry, too.
Soon we realize it's time to part.
She has to meet
yet another friend before taking
an evening flight back to Mumbai.
So she leaves by car
and I by the metro again!
Life is filled with surprises.
I knew Sandra would be in my city
for just a couple of days.
But we managed to meet
and I took my maiden metro ride, too.

Metro ride is always a pleasure. Dedication of poem to Sandra is great.
